Masconomet boys lacrosse team must win last two for tournament berthMay 19, 2017 5:31pm

May 19--After a 1-7 start, Masco has turned the tide, going 7-2 over its last nine games to come back into tournament contention. At 8-10 after an 8-7 loss to St. John's Prep on May 18, Masco has to win its last two games to make the state tournament.

They went into that Prep game off a two game winning streak against Manchester Essex and Peabody.

In the May 12 night game in Manchester, the Chieftains commanded the game from wire to wire, winning 10-6.

"We took an early lead [7-2 at halftime] and never looked back," said head coach Tom Cobb.

Randy Castle and Joe Buccieri split the win in net, while Garrett Young was dominant offensively with five goals. Adam Story had two goals and three assists, Thomas O'Keefe had a goal and an assist, Brendan Driscoll and Ryan Castle each had one goal and Jay Theriault had one assist.

In a lower-scoring affair, Masco beat Peabody by a 7-2 victory on May 15.

"We played a very stingy defense, keeping Peabody off the board, although they had a number of opportunities," said Cobb.

Driscoll scored three goals, Ryan Castle had two, Young had one and Trevor Gallo scored one. Randy Castle and Buccieri again split the victory, Castle giving up the two goals in the first and Buccieri shutting down the Tanners in the second.

Defenders Tommy Jung, Max Sherriff-Streng, Connor Swarts, Bryan Gilbert, Theriault, Connor McMillian and Dylan Ursino also contributed to the low-scoring victory.
