Hear Pistol Annies’ Witty New Song ‘Stop Drop and Roll One’October 12, 2018 3:02pm

With the release of their third album Interstate Gospel just three weeks away, Pistol Annies have unleashed another sneak peek at the LP with “Stop Drop and Roll One,” the saucy, high-spirited musical equivalent of late-night pub crawl.

From its inspired opening line — “We’re on fire, I think” — uttered by Miranda Lambert during a particularly fruitful writing session with her Annies’ cohorts Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley, a boozy, smoke-filled ladies’ night ensues as Monroe sings, “I don’t really care how this phony-ass fairytale ends, I just hope that we’re leaving this honky-tonk covered in men.”

As the smoke clears and the effects of the night before take hold, Presley humorously sings, “Get this thing off of me, where in the hell is my bra/ This hurts a lot more than the last time we did Mardi Gras.” What’s most endearing about the trio throughout is that even while they might want to take a break the morning after from all the “mirrors and smoke rings” and perhaps a few dubious lifestyle choices, their solidarity as independent women, and as longtime friends, remains as strong and inspiring as their vocal harmony.

Interstate Gospel will be available November 2nd.
